Jaipur Blue Pottery
This stunning handmade Pottery is a heritage craft stemming from generations of tradition and skills. The story goes that potters settled in Jaipur and the then Maharaja found their work so enchanting that he became their patron and so the unique blue pottery found its home in Jaipur. Each time I visit I generally hand select the most special pieces from a family who have been making these gorgeous items through the past 15 generations. Due to their fragility they are only shipped within the UK.

Each piece is hand thrown, painted and glazed, then hand fired in very small batches on a small open oven as opposed to a commercial kiln, this tradition has remained the same for generation.

The family who produce this pottery continue a line of 15 generations of craftsmen, they use knowledge and skill rather than any set designs and so each piece is a completely unique work of art.

They are made using traditional materials and fired at lower temperatures and the glaze is very delicate. So they can of course not go in the dishwasher or sustain heavy use while remaining perfect. They are great as fruit plates or side plates for serving where they can be dusted afterwards or of course as decorative pieces to adorn the wall. Most plates will have a drilled hole in the reverse to allow them to easily be hung on a nail.

I created Indian Poppy in 2018 when I began collecting odd little curios and antiques in stores and reclamation yards across India. I then produced a small line of tablecloths which are currently stocked in wonderful store in Brooklyn, New York. Most recently I have added some wonderful rugs to my collection which really typify the beauty and craftsmanship available in India.
